On January 17 at its first general meeting for 2013 the core group of the Virginia Arab American Democratic Caucus elected Fred Shwaery as president and Amr Mounib as co-president of the group.
The group was created in 1987 by a group of Arab American Democratic Activists under the leadership of the late Jawad George and its first present Saba Shami.
The
original structure was revised back in 2009, the Group elected Paul
Noursi and Maram Abdelhamid as Co-presidents- they served a 4 year term,
which ended on December 31, 2012.
Fred Shwaery
had a 35 year government career and retired from as the Chief of the
Talent Development Division for the Federal Highway Administration. He
worked in a variety of petitions at the IRS for the first 26 years of
his career; his last 8 were at the FHWA. Fred is a longtime member of
Mt. Vernon District Democratic Committee and the Fairfax County
Democratic Committee (FCDC). Fred served on the FCDC Steering Committee
for 4 years when he chaired the FCDC State Affairs Committee. Newly
appointed to represent Mt. Vernon on the FCDC Diversity Committee.
Member of the Diversity Committee of the Screen Actors Guild. Member of
ADC and AAI.
Amr Mounib is a Virginia Commercial Photographer. He grow up in Arlington and
earned an Associate degree in Natural Science from Northern Virginia Community College and then a BA from American University of Washington DC. He is also a Veteran of the US Navy.
Amr
Co-founded Arab American Democrats for Obama in Virginia and has been
an active member in the Arab American community throughout Virginia.
Amr
served on the Obama digital team and covered all his visits to the
commonwealth in 2012. His photos were widely used by the campaigns ,
